🏔️ Nearby Sights

Notable places within about 40 km — shown as straight-line (air) distance, not travel distance

Deildartunguhver 13 km away (air distance)

Do not touch the water, which is hot enough to scald. It is a short stop, around twenty minutes, and combines nicely with a visit to the nearby Krauma spa or the village of Reykholt. In cold weather the steam is thicker and more dramatic. A small shop nearby sells local produce from the greenhouses.

Hraunfossar and Barnafoss 28 km away (air distance)

Walkways and viewpoints let you look at the falls from several angles, and a short path leads upstream to Barnafoss, where the river rushes through a narrow gorge. The whole visit takes around an hour. It is a good stop near Reykholt and Deildartunguhver, and is lovely in autumn when the surrounding vegetation changes colour.
