Grafarholt & Úlfarsárdalur
Grafarholt and Úlfarsárdalur are among Reykjavík's newest and highest-elevation suburbs, built from the 2000s onward on hillsides at the city's northeastern edge, next to a well-known golf course.
📍 toward the south of Grafarholt & Úlfarsárdalur.
The elevated position means good views back over the rest of Reykjavík and out toward the mountains on a clear day.

The museum, part of the Reykjavík City Museum, began collecting buildings that were threatened by redevelopment in the city centre. Instead of demolishing them, they were moved here and restored. Together they give a vivid sense of how Reykjavík grew from a small fishing and farming settlement into a modern capital over the past two centuries.
The name means "valley of the hot springs", because natural hot water bubbled out of the ground here. Reykjavík's women once carried their laundry to the springs to wash it, and the site was an important part of daily life until the early 20th century. Today the valley is the city's main sports and leisure district.
Take the ferry from the harbour or from Skarfabakki pier, and check the timetable before you go, since services vary by season. Bring a picnic and sturdy shoes; there's a café in the old house on the island. The Imagine Peace Tower, a column of light, is lit on particular dates, including 9 October and the winter solstice.
