Akureyri Town Centre
This stop is in the centre of Akureyri, Iceland's second city and the capital of the north — a compact, walkable downtown with the famous heart-shaped traffic lights, a botanical garden, and views across Eyjafjörður fjord.
📍 right in the heart of Akureyri Town Centre.
The botanical garden (Lystigarðurinn) is free to enter and a pleasant stop if the weather's good.
Notable places within about 40 km — shown as straight-line (air) distance, not travel distance
The garden was founded in 1912 by a group of local women and is now home to thousands of plant species. It features all of Iceland's native plants, as well as species from the Arctic, the Alps and beyond. Because of the sheltered microclimate in the Eyjafjörður fjord, it counts as one of the northernmost botanical gardens in the world.
Goðafoss is a graceful, horseshoe-shaped waterfall on the Skjálfandafljót river in North Iceland. The water, pale blue and white, spills in a broad curtain over a curved lava ledge, with the sound of rushing water carrying across the plain. Paths on both banks provide different viewpoints, and the falls are easy to reach from the Ring Road.
