Ásbrú & Keilir
Ásbrú is a former US military base near Keflavík, repurposed since 2006 into housing, a university campus (Keilir), and business space — a distinctive, spread-out grid of Cold War–era buildings now serving civilian use.
📍 right in the heart of Ásbrú & Keilir.
Keilir campus here draws a mix of students, adding a bit more life to what was once a closed military site.

The lagoon was formed by outflow from the nearby Svartsengi geothermal power plant, which uses superheated water drawn from deep below the lava field. Its colour comes from dissolved silica and algae. People soon discovered that bathing in the water seemed to help skin conditions, and a spa grew up around it. The water is renewed regularly.
The bridge is just a short walk from the car park, so a visit takes only around twenty to thirty minutes. Many people collect a certificate at a nearby visitor centre as a souvenir. Combine it with other Reykjanes sights such as the lighthouse, the geothermal area at Gunnuhver, or the village of Hafnir.
Garðskagi is the far northwestern tip of the Reykjanes peninsula, where two lighthouses, one old and one new, stand against wide skies and the open sea. The headland is flat and windswept, with a long view across Faxaflói bay toward Snæfellsjökull on clear days.
