Fossvogur & Skerjafjörður
Fossvogur is a green valley and cemetery park dividing Reykjavík from Kópavogur, while Skerjafjörður is the low-lying coastal strip beside Reykjavík Domestic Airport — together a mix of parkland, university buildings, and small coastal housing.
📍 toward the east of Fossvogur & Skerjafjörður.
If you're flying domestically within Iceland, this is the area to head for — Reykjavík Airport (not to be confused with Keflavík) is here.

Sky Lagoon is a modern geothermal spa on the Kársnes shoreline in Kópavogur, built into the coastal rocks. Its infinity-edge pool looks straight out over the North Atlantic, so soaking in the warm water feels like drifting toward the horizon. There are saunas, a cold plunge and a bar within the facility.
The beach was created in 2000 by pumping geothermal water into a lagoon and adding golden shell sand, so that the temperature is far warmer than the surrounding North Atlantic. The geothermal heating is produced by the city's hot water network. It is a fine example of how Reykjavík uses its geothermal resources for leisure as well as heating.
Perlan was completed in 1991 on top of tanks that store geothermal hot water for the city's heating system. The site is a nice reminder of how deeply geothermal energy shapes daily life in Iceland, and the museum's exhibits on glaciers, volcanoes and the northern lights explore that story further.
