🏔️ Nearby Sights

Notable places within about 40 km — shown as straight-line (air) distance, not travel distance

Seljalandsfoss 32 km away (air distance)

Wear waterproof clothing and shoes with a good grip, since the path behind the fall is wet and can be icy in winter. A short walk along the cliff leads to Gljúfrabúi, a smaller waterfall hidden inside a cleft, which is well worth seeing. Visit in the evening in summer for golden light.

Kerið Crater 33 km away (air distance)

It's a quick stop, perhaps half an hour, and fits neatly into a Golden Circle itinerary. A small entry fee is usually charged. Walk around the rim for the best views and then go down to the lakeshore for a closer look. The light is best in summer, but snow in winter also looks beautiful.

Secret Lagoon (Gamla Laugin) 34 km away (air distance)

The pool dates from 1891 and is one of the oldest in Iceland. It was used for swimming lessons and later neglected, before being restored in the early 2000s and opened to visitors. The nearby small geyser, Litli Geysir, erupts every few minutes. The village is a farming community known for its greenhouses.
