🏔️ Nearby Sights

Notable places within about 40 km — shown as straight-line (air) distance, not travel distance

Seljalandsfoss 11 km away (air distance)

The waterfall is fed by a river that originates in the glacier Eyjafjallajökull, famous for its 2010 eruption, which disrupted air travel across Europe. The water drops about 60 metres. The fall is one of the best-known stops in South Iceland, and it is often combined with Skógafoss, which is only a short drive further east.

Eldheimar Museum, Vestmannaeyjar 13 km away (air distance)

You reach Heimaey by taking the Herjólfur ferry from Landeyjahöfn, so plan around the ferry timetable and weather. Allow about an hour for the museum and extra time to explore the island, including the lava fields and Eldfell volcano just outside the town. Check the opening times, as they vary by season.

Skógafoss 30 km away (air distance)

Climb the stairs for the view from above, then continue along the river to see smaller waterfalls upstream. The area gets a lot of spray, so bring a rain jacket. The Skógar museum and the start of the Fimmvörðuháls hiking trail are nearby. It is best photographed in the afternoon, when the sun hits the water.
