Hlíðar & Holt
Hlíðar and Holt form a central residential belt just east of downtown Reykjavík, a grid of streets named after Icelandic mountains and valleys, close to Klambratún park and the Kringlan area.
📍 toward the south-east of Hlíðar & Holt.
Being so central, stops here are usually a short ride from both downtown and the Kringlan shopping centre.

Perlan was completed in 1991 on top of tanks that store geothermal hot water for the city's heating system. The site is a nice reminder of how deeply geothermal energy shapes daily life in Iceland, and the museum's exhibits on glaciers, volcanoes and the northern lights explore that story further.
The beach is busiest in summer, but the hot tubs are also used by hardy locals in cooler months, and there is a café on site. Bring a towel and swimsuit, and use the changing rooms. It is easily combined with a walk or cycle along the coastal path or a visit to Perlan, a short distance away.
Take the lift up the tower for a 360° view over the colourful rooftops, the harbour and the mountains across the bay; it is one of the best vantage points in the city. Allow around an hour including the interior, check opening hours for services and concerts, and look for the statue of Leifur Eiríksson on the square outside.
