Árbær
This stop serves Árbær, a green, family-oriented suburb east of the city centre — known locally for the Árbæjarsafn heritage museum and its proximity to the Elliðaárdalur nature reserve.
📍 right in the heart of Árbær.
The Elliðaárdalur valley here is one of the best spots in the city for a riverside walk or salmon-spotting in summer.

Allow two hours to wander at your own pace, and note that opening hours and guided tours vary by season. In summer, costumed staff demonstrate crafts and farm tasks, and the café serves traditional pastries. Because most of the visit is outdoors, wear weatherproof clothing, and children usually enjoy the animals and open space.
The name means "valley of the hot springs", because natural hot water bubbled out of the ground here. Reykjavík's women once carried their laundry to the springs to wash it, and the site was an important part of daily life until the early 20th century. Today the valley is the city's main sports and leisure district.
Opened in 2021, the spa takes inspiration from Icelandic bathing traditions and turf-house architecture. Guests follow a multi-step ritual that alternates warm water, cold plunge, sauna, steam and a skin scrub. The geothermal water is drawn from nearby sources and mixed to keep the lagoon at a comfortable temperature.
