Laugardalur
Laugardalur ('Hot Spring Valley') is Reykjavík's main recreational valley — home to the city's largest swimming pool, a botanical garden, a small zoo and family park, and Laugardalshöll arena, all in one green stretch east of downtown.
📍 toward the south-west of Laugardalur.
Laugardalslaug is the largest pool in Reykjavík, with more slides and a bigger hot-pot area than the smaller neighbourhood pools.

Joining locals in the hot pots is one of the most authentic things you can do in the city; bring a swimsuit and shower thoroughly first, as is the custom. The botanical garden is a peaceful stop in summer, and you could spend half a day in the area, especially with children. It is easy to reach by bus.
The house is used for city events and is usually not open to the public, but you can see it from outside and walk the lawn beside it. It's an easy addition to a seaside walk from Sun Voyager along the north shore, so allow ten to fifteen minutes. A plaque and information boards explain the history.
Perlan was completed in 1991 on top of tanks that store geothermal hot water for the city's heating system. The site is a nice reminder of how deeply geothermal energy shapes daily life in Iceland, and the museum's exhibits on glaciers, volcanoes and the northern lights explore that story further.
