Vesturbær
This stop is in Vesturbær, a leafy, largely residential part of the city west of the centre — known for its close-knit, small-town feel despite being minutes from downtown, and for the seaside path along Ægisíða.

Vesturbæjarlaug is one of the more local, less touristy geothermal pools in the city — worth a stop if you want to swim like a local.

In the middle of the capital, Tjörnin is a calm pond where the city's birdlife gathers, and a path circles the water past colourful houses, the city hall and the old Iðnó theatre. On quiet days the reflections of the buildings fill the surface, and in summer the air is full of birdsong.
The church was designed by state architect Guðjón Samúelsson, and building work stretched from the 1940s into the 1980s. It is named after the 17th-century poet and clergyman Hallgrímur Pétursson. The statue of Leifur Eiríksson in front was a gift from the United States, marking a thousand years of the Althing in 1930.
The beach was created in 2000 by pumping geothermal water into a lagoon and adding golden shell sand, so that the temperature is far warmer than the surrounding North Atlantic. The geothermal heating is produced by the city's hot water network. It is a fine example of how Reykjavík uses its geothermal resources for leisure as well as heating.
