Vesturbær
Vesturbær ('West Town') is one of Reykjavík's oldest residential neighbourhoods, a quiet grid of early-20th-century houses just west of downtown, home to the University of Iceland and the city's famous Vesturbæjarlaug pool.
📍 right in the heart of Vesturbær.
The seafront path along Ægisíða is a good place to walk or run with views out toward Faxaflói bay.

In the middle of the capital, Tjörnin is a calm pond where the city's birdlife gathers, and a path circles the water past colourful houses, the city hall and the old Iðnó theatre. On quiet days the reflections of the buildings fill the surface, and in summer the air is full of birdsong.
Rising above the rooftops of central Reykjavík, Hallgrímskirkja is the city's most recognisable building. Its stepped concrete tower is shaped to echo the basalt columns found across Iceland, and the white façade is visible from almost every corner of the capital. Inside, the church is plain and airy, with a huge organ dominating the hall.
The beach was created in 2000 by pumping geothermal water into a lagoon and adding golden shell sand, so that the temperature is far warmer than the surrounding North Atlantic. The geothermal heating is produced by the city's hot water network. It is a fine example of how Reykjavík uses its geothermal resources for leisure as well as heating.
